After a journey of personal research for an organization that would be not only meaningful but would teach me to be more well-rounded and better prepare me for the real world I decided to join Omega Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated: According to the dictionary, the term "fraternity" is described as a "chiefly social group linked by similar interests." The first and foremost goal of every fraternity and sorority is to bring together a group of men or women and teach them values, traditions, and honor, while building everlasting bonds of friendship. However, unfortunately, for years, Greeks across the nation have had to deal with the "Animal House" image of uncontrolled partying and negligent behavior. Why would anyone want to be associated with that reputation? Was there any organization that did not meet this stereo-type? Omega Phi Beta!
At C.W. Post, the Epsilon Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated was dedicated to building future societal leaders by providing a wealth of leadership opportunities for its members and the campus at large. From social issues to academic, business to philanthropy, our members sharpened our leadership edge from our sorority experience. Omega Phi Beta’s Epsilon chapter was one of the most outstanding means of discovering and refining my leadership potential. Within the Epsilon chapter, members had the opportunity to assume a wide spectrum of leadership roles. It gave us opportunities to learn and practice leadership stretch beyond chapters. Additionally, there were many system-wide leadership roles opened at CW Post. Beyond the Greek community, Betas were involved in nearly every registered student organization on Campus. Just a few of the student organizations in which we were generally actively involved with included: The Council for Latino American Students, Student Government Association, the Campus Activity Board, Varsity Sports, Club Sports, and even student’s residence life and housing.
Philanthropy projects mostly around health awareness, domestic violence and eventually cancer awareness were events in which Epsilon chapter, donated our time and efforts to raise funds to benefit the worthwhile causes mentioned above. Philanthropy projects and community service at Post was more than just helping out a cause to the Betas. It showed the community what members of a sorority of
In addition to the number of scholastic enhancement programs, leadership development opportunities, community service initiatives and competitive athletic experiences available to me while at Post, Omega Phi Beta also provided balance social programs for all of our members. Organized social programs included formals, meetings, homecoming, sisterhood bonding events, Greek Week, and other activities with other fraternities and sororities on campus. Omega Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated provided me the opportunity to develop such meaningful friendships-sisterhood for LIFE!
